The educational flow has undergone a very rapid change over time with the ever-growing era.
The generation has changed a lot, in contrast to the previous generation. Along with this change, accordingly the teaching method should also be modified in the current state.
This challenge also includes when handling weak pupils in a learning session.
There are many ways that can be done to attract poor students to learning well.
- Know their learning style.
This is the most important factor in ensuring that pupils receive what they want to teach them.
There are three main types of learning style that are visual, auditory and kinesthetic. Although everyone has these three types of styles but one has a dominant style within themselves.
Each of these learning styles has a different approach. Teachers need to know each student’s style of learning in their class and adapt to the method they are using.
- Use different methods.
Poor students usually have less concentration. This causes them to be quickly bored with what they learn. They are duly educated using different mediums.
If a learning session has different methods, the mind of a student has not been bored with something it has introduced to something new.
This can reduce their boredom and can attract them to learn. It is better if teachers can teach by focusing on teaching aids.
The material must be creative and use bright colors to attract them. Additionally, the time allocated for an activity should not be too long, and if it takes a long time to be properly restored with a break to avoid losing their focus. If we had just learned in the classroom before, what we said was out of class, learning while looking at different moods.
- Explain about the use of the knowledge they learned.
Sometimes students feel uncomfortable or tired of what they learn is because they do not know the usefulness of the knowledge they are learning.
They only know that they need to learn because their parents are told or they are the routine they need to go through like other routines.
A good teacher is a teacher who can explain to his students what they can apply to what they are learning.
For example, if a student is well aware of the importance of mathematically learning to help them in the right measure to make sure the puppets who are interested in making the cake will be more eager to learn the knowledge.
- Involve a real experience.
Pupils who are exposed to the actual experience will be more understandable than the students who only study theoretically.
This method is especially effective for the current generation who only know something just at the fingertips.
For example, to learn the size of kilograms, if a teacher carries a weighing instrument and balances the material in front of the pupil, it will definitely be understood and remembered as if the teacher only told it verbally.
It will be more interesting if the teacher holds a cake making class and while teaching while teaching a measure of size.
- Provide rewards that interest students.
If learning is accompanied by rewards that can attract students it will be more effective. The two types of rewards that are usually given are in the form of positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement.
Positive reinforcement is like praising or giving rewards that make pupils happy and stimulate them to stay excited in learning.
Negative reinforcement is like giving punishment such as standing fines, doing work outside the classroom and so on. The purpose of the reward type is negative so that the student does not repeat the same mistakes repeatedly. Both types of rewards are important in terms of the mood.
But positive reinforcement is more appropriate for poor students such as praise, spirit. That’s why in the 21st Century Learning need to be provided with a Reward Chart.
This is because usually a weak student is a disciple who is less confident in themselves, when there is an affirmation that the inner spirit will emerge.
- Repeat many times what is taught.
The purpose of repeating here is to repeat the contents of the lesson with different methods. The weak students are usually composed of those who have problems in terms of understanding something. That is why teachers need to always repeat what is being taught repeatedly in different ways.
Teachers can repeat them verbally, then repeat using the media or using interesting mind maps using the teacher’s own creativity. Additionally, teachers can attract them by always calling the name of a poor student repeatedly during the learning process, this will lead to a focus on the teacher being taught.
- Teachers need to be firm but not fierce.
In teaching the teacher should practice a firm attitude but not a fierce trait. Strict nature will make pupils differentiate between right and wrong. While the fierce nature will cause the students to fear and become increasingly unwilling to learn.
Usually poor students are composed of those who also have disciplinary problems. Strong attitude is very important to help them understand what they are learning and to help them comply with rules during study.
- Teachers should always give encouragement and motivation to the students.
Hopefully the teachers do not give up on educating and helping students to be weak to continue studying. Think of it as a challenge for us in fighting the world of education. Remember the success of the ladder.
